General Discussion / Re: Operating Carriers
« on: May 01, 2020, 09:04:46 am »
Thank you. I didn't think about the multiple torpedos from different directions thing. That will help a little. Right now I only have the Hosho. I'll keep at it. I've been in a few battles with experienced carrier players. Their contribution to the battle was significant. That takes practice, just like all the other ships.

General Discussion / Some of my issues
« on: April 30, 2020, 05:55:39 am »
I’m mostly struggling with aircraft targeting. I know I have to lead my target some, but it depends on which aircraft I’m using that determines the amount of lead.

The torpedo planes seem to be the worst for this. But I also hate the dive bombers, how they nose way up first before diving, and I lose sight of the ship and the target reticule for a few seconds.

Also, I could use some pointers on which attack aircraft to use on which ships.

General Discussion / Operating Carriers
« on: April 30, 2020, 05:54:24 am »
I want to start a discussion about carriers.

I had them years ago on my first account. They were difficult to control, and you almost always were on the bottom of the score board. It was, and still is, tough to get any damage inflicted with them.

I stayed away from them on this account for over a year. Then I noticed the clan was missing points with the carriers in the Naval Battles. I said something in clan chat and Chuckwagoneer stepped up and has consistently added points for us in the carrier part of the battles. Thank you very much Chuck!

I finally broke down and bought a Hosho. Learning curve all over again. I found I do like the carriers a bit more than I thought I would. I’m still struggling with mastering the different aircraft attack patterns. Especially the torpedo planes.

I also didn’t figure out I could directly control the carrier’s path instead of autopilot, until it was too late. I had one battle where I attempted to ram a battleship, because I got myself into that situation, and trying to do tat with the autopilot was very hard. I just missed, and the BB was going to hit me instead, but the battle ended seconds before impact. I wish I had known about direct control of the ship before this, I would have connected with my ramming attempt.

I’m hoping we can all share tips and pointers on how to operate carriers.

Co-Op Battles / COOP battle mayhem
« on: March 09, 2020, 05:10:45 am »
I just had one of the most screwed up coop battles I've ever witnessed and fell victim too.

Two Brothers map. Player team started on the top. Only three of us were players, all others were bots. I was in my Myoko. One player in another cruiser and one in a BB. I'm in the top right with the other cruiser player and two bot BB's.

Battle starts and immediately my entire force heads for the slot instead of covering the right side. The other cruiser player started it by heading there and causing the two bot BB's to turn that way also. Which caused them to promptly get hung up with each other and take most of the battle to get straightened out again. After doing so they still head for the slot.

One friendly DD came over to my side from the center and was promptly sunk the moment it made contact with the two cruisers coming up the right side. I headed straight for the center island on the right side for cover, figuring I was facing alone, the mirror to my team, which would be two cruisers and two BB's.

It was two cruisers only. I got one with torps as it came around the island and the other one was sunk by the two BB's behind me that were un-stuck and now heading for the slot.

I then figured I could try to get from the island cover to our start base since everyone was piling into the slot. Including the player BB. I then found that an enemy BB and cruiser had gotten tangled up south of me and as soon as I cleared the island, I was sunk by one salvo from each since I was caught broadside to them, about 7K in range.

All of our BB's ended up in the slot. Somehow, the player BB managed to survive, and make it through the slot and then came around to the right side to take on the last enemy BB. Meanwhile, the other three friendly BB's puttered around trying to get backed up out of the slot since the remaining fight was spilling back into our start base.

At this point, somehow, one friendly bot BB managed to fire a gun broadside into another friendly bot BB in the slot. Both had no shots at the enemy at all. Yet they were fring into the mountainside in that general direction.

I have never seen almost two entire fleets try and go through the slot on that map before. I really didn't appreciate getting abandoned either. Usually I just deal with it. Not this time though. That player got an unsporting conduct and does not play well report.

General Discussion / Re: gun neutrality

I don't know of any. I noticed the bots do this too. I also noticed that they have more individual control of their main turrets than we do. Or so it appears. Maybe it's just timing.

I've seen where a bot's forward turrets were turned away from me and firing on another teammate of mine, while the rear turrets were facing, and firing on me.

Co-Op Battles / Re: Post any clips or videos of your triumphs.
« on: February 03, 2020, 01:27:14 pm »
I was so close this morning. 3 seconds! I needed just 3 more seconds and I would have sank 8 bots in a single battle.

I was in my T2 Storozhevoi. The last enemy bot was on the opposite side of an island. We were both heading the same direction. My bots had it under fire and I was begging the game gods that my bots would miss. The enemy bot only had about 230HP left. If I could just get one or two gun shots into it, I would have it. It started to clear the end of the island and I could just see the bow. I only needed about 3 seconds to be able to fire with confidence that I'd connect.

But Noooo.

My bots nailed it just as it came into my view. I'm surprised I didn't wake my household this morning yelling at the computer screen. I was so close to sinking 8. So close!

On the plus side, it is the fifth time I've managed to sink 7 in a single battle. I've done it while in DD's. Okhotnik, Umikaze and Storozhevoi.

One day...

I remember doing this on my first account. I forgot about it until a few weeks ago. I tried changing my crosshairs, but it wouldn't let me for some reason. I'll have to try again. Thanks for the reminder.

That's interesting. I didn't know that either. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I know it's not possible. I just wish it could be. But that's probably far more complicated than it's worth for the code writers. Just wishful thinking. :)

Naval Battles / Re: Our 3rd loss in a row

On a positive note, in COOP2 we have won our first two naval battles. The second one was very close, but Ironshroud and Totenliste came in at the end and squeaked it out for us.

I'm not sure I completely followed what was happening in the video at the end. I do however have questions about how the clan gets resources. I understand that things like steel come from clan battles. The oil I understand. The coal is the one I'm puzzled about. How does the clan get coal? And is there a way to give resources to the clan voluntarily, beyond the game mechanics like oil. I think it would be nice to have the option to voluntarily contribute resources to the clan. As well as loan ships out to other clan members so they can try them out.

I'm moving over to the new clan to help.

General Discussion / Re: Super Containers.

I've received 2 or 3 super containers in the last month or so. I keep forgetting to take a screenshot of them and put them here. I got a bunch of experience in one, doubloons in another, and I think coal and flags in the third.  Have to go look and see if I can where it shows what I got. Went through a long dry spell of no super containers, then got three in several weeks.

Ha! This is the only way I'm getting any steel. At this rate I'll be 100 before I can afford to buy a ship for steel. :P

General Discussion / Re: Italian Cruisers
« on: December 10, 2019, 10:09:11 am »
I ended up with the Duca d' Aosta and the Trento. U got the Duca first, and I liked it. A bit thin skinned, but most cruisers are. gun fire rate was acceptable. Then I got the Trento and was disappointed in the slower rate of fire. Until I realized it had bigger guns than the Duca and hit harder. I like both of these cruisers. I've had some good battles in them both.

But when I tried some of the others on the low end of the tech tree, I wasn't that impressed or interested. Seeing that the high end ships still have a slow rate of fire turned me off from pursuing the line.

I sold the Trento to help get money to buy the Republique. Since it's a tech tree cruiser, I can buy it back later if I want. I kept the Duca since it's a premium.
